Sesame Street
When Marianne has a blocked nose overnight it makes her really upset and bitey as she can’t feed. She’ll be trying to breastfeed but won’t be able to make it work and so clamps her teeth down. This is some of the hardest behaviour to deal with.
In these situations I just prop us both upright and put old Sesame Street episodes on YouTube on my phone and wait for the snot to clear. I have zero ****s to give about screen time being bad for babies when it’s night time and she’s ill. I am just grateful I’m not a peasant woman living 500 years ago in a freezing cold mud house with no easy way to entertain an ill child.
The upshot of this though is Marianne thinks Sesame Street is a magical mirage which only appears after dark. Sometimes we hang out on my bed in the middle of the day and she points to where I prop my phone up. I kind of love the fact she’s so excited about it. Does she think it’s a dream?
I would like to provide you and your kid with a miracle oasis of toys and some creativity this Friday at Cambridge Creative Parents!
We will be writing about authenticity but it’s always just an invitation to create, you can also just journal, have a hot drink and some biscuits and chat to others. And I’ll be bringing some chill colouring for grown ups too.
But if the mood to write something about your experience as a parents comes to you I’m so there for it…
