Safe House: A Midwifery Community

Hey. I’m Ellie, a midwife, writer and long-term midwifery community builder. I use writing and art to address our most intractable midwifery problems and this helps me stay afloat.

I put Safe House together because social media platforms like Facebook are a bit surface level for me. instead, I want to have real conversations, the kind we should be having everyday at work but are frequently hard to get in.

Group calls are 6pm on Saturdays or Sundays, once every two weeks

We discuss the real stuff, like what happens if you’re a midwife/student with ADHD, how to protect the needs of our vulnerable clients, how to practice wholehearted advocacy, how to deal with your chronic condition and all of the rest of the role of NHS midwives under pressure.

You can watch all the back catalogue of our calls when you join.

Yes, we’re in a tough place as midwives. But the role is so worth doing. There are fantastic career opportunities and ways of being a midwife. Let’s figure it out together.

I also support students so problems with time management/essays/presentations/placement performance can be addressed, there are tons of webinars on this kind of thing already recorded for you.

I wrote the following so I’ve pulled from the book and all my experience writing it:

You will also get writing series that the public midwifery world don’t have access to. Plus free learning opportunities, for example a Breathwork for Midwives workshop that can be used for CPD.

Safe House is a non-cringe support group for students and midwives who truly care.
