Ongoing Moderation
Dear Secret Community,
There is some great learning going on here.
However, we’re also beginning to see repetition of points being made, which is exhausting to moderate. Social media is so challenging!
To care for the emotional wellbeing and to respect the time of our mods, please read the thread in detail and review our rules before getting involved.
Some of the most relevant ones are:
Be kind; we like to draw on Brené Brown’s ‘Stay awkward, brave and kind’ to describe the hard conversations we want to see here (currently we would also add ‘ceasefire now’ to Brown’s work as well).
Do not comment on an individual’s worthiness to practice midwifery. Our Facebook group is a pubic and fast-paced place, and we have never seen such a conversation have a positive effect so this is our rule.
Discussion about actions being damaging to vulnerable groups is appropriate. Discussing the reasons an individual person is not a worthy human being is not.
If we continue to see people not listening to our moderators we will mute and block accordingly. We don't like this but it's difficult to manage a community of this size in any other way.
We will go through every comment carefully. It’s not unusual for us to change some moderation practices based on what our members, particularly our activist members, say.
Real responses and changes take time to implement. Today we’re all used to Facebook on tap meaning instant reactions and solutions but we’ve found our 26 member strong admin team need several meetings and periods of internal reflection, reading and problem solving to get to new ways of thinking.
We regret we can't respond to all PMs.
If we’ve muted you because of our policy on diversity and inclusion, you may find the following resources helpful in developing your allyship (see below).
If we are restating our position many times, instead of outlining new suggestions, we will close the comments.
If this post relates to allyship, please see our resources here
Thank you for being here, being part of the midwifery world and taking part!
