I’m Considering Leaving Midwifery - What Now?

I know how painful it can be to be thinking about leaving midwifery. Having some space to think through your options is key. I’ve spent the last three years writing a book, which meant I got to interview many midwives doing exciting things with their careers. A plan can bring back your motivation and enthusiasm as you finish your last placement. Or, if you need to take a break from placement, many excellent students do this. Same with midwives, I have encountered many who have taken time off due to burnout or questioning their next move. You’d be amazed who has done this at your workplace, and you don’t know!

Even if you leave, whatever comes next, there is no wasted effort with midwifery; it all counts.

Think about it with someone who has taken a break from midwifery and returned stronger. We can figure it out together.
