Job Applications for Student and Newly Qualified Midwives (Put Together Especially for Those Who Are Quite Tired at This Point!)
A course for students, newly qualified midwives, or anyone else writing an application for getting a band 5 position - though this will be helpful for anyone getting a band 6 position too!
This video course will take you through writing the ‘supporting information’ bit of your application. You will generally get 1500 words and be asked to explore:
‘supporting information, particular talents and strengths, what you can personally offer and what sets you apart from your peers’
Or something similar - we will cover meeting these criteria.
Together we will work out how to:
Ensure you are demonstrating the key aspects of the personal specification and job description
Show your best skills in your writing
Use the values of the trust to demonstrate who you are as a midwife
Practice deep empathy for the managers reading, and communicate what you can offer professionally and with confidence
In this course, we will explore the following:
Why ‘standing out’ is a red herring which will can put your fire out, and what to think about instead
How to write a wholehearted application even while knowing that midwifery is facing significant limitations; why being part of and a witness to change is affirming to your work as a newly qualified midwife
The recent failures in care identified by the Ockenden and other reports, and how to show you understand your biggest responsibilities as a band 5 midwife
