ONE TO ONE INTERVIEW COACHING

 £100

Some people want to learn answers to all possible questions. I think it's more like, do the work to understand the profession and consider your place in it. Then you can show the admissions tutors what you can offer birthing people, women and families. And then on the day don't try and just answer questions via rote learning. The admissions staff need to get a glimpse of what you'll be like on placement which means deep thinking and honest in the moment responses. This can feel very vulnerable but it's compelling. My usual take on interview prep is to do as much as you need to feel you can answer the questions and then throw it all away and answer based on what you know and feel on the day.

These are intensive preparation sessions. Each Zoom session lasts an hour. I will work closely with you so I can tailor your interview. We can talk about midwifery knowledge, nerves, answers, performance, whatever you'd like.

We'll go with your needs but usually, interviews take one of the following forms:

One to One - we'll cover the essential questions like 'Why do you want to be a midwife?', 'Tell me about the current challenges midwives face?' and 'Tell me about your strengths and weaknesses'. I'll also cover some more challenging questions, including midwifery scenarios.

Multiple Mini Interview - we'll go through the strategy and mindset needed to answer questions on the spot. I'll set your practice questions under timed conditions and then offer feedback and pointers

Group Interview - we can replicate the questions and conditions on Zoom together, and then talk about your performance

We can also do a blend of these.

1. BE YOURSELF

People get tangled up in terms of nerves but it's actually very simple. Make your answers about what you can offer women and families in your care and what you say will show your midwifery potential. I'll show you how to find your ability in your skills and experiences and we can add some midwifery knowledge if this is what's needed. You can be your own vulnerable, passionate self in these interviews. In fact, that's often how you'll perform best.

2. PRACTICE

Most of us have precious few opportunities to practice interview technique. Putting yourself under pressure in a low stakes environment will help you gain skill in answering questions on the spot.

3. BUILD YOUR FUTURE CAREER

Finding a topic you're passionate about can be a powerful way of communicating your ability.  Most of us are too close to pick up on our biggest strengths and how they come across. Identifying yours will help you approach your interview with confidence.

If there's anything not on this page you'd like to talk about or cover, that's fine, just let me know when you fill out the form below.

“I had my interview yesterday (my only option) and I got a call two hours after the interview that I was one of the highest performers in the interview and they are offering me a place. I'm so happy and excited to be 41 years old and starting a new career and way of life!”

I wanted to send you a huge and genuine thank you for your help. I am convinced that without your 1 to 1 for my personal statement and videos for interview prep I would not be sitting here today with an offer to study midwifery. Your help was incredible and I walked into the interview confident that I would do well. And I did, so a massive thank you!

- Anna

“Just wanted to share my experience with Ellie and the one-to-one midwifery interview coaching I had last night. I have no bias or conflict of interests and I just wanted to say that it was truly a wonderful experience.

I learnt so much and took a lot on board which will be useful not only for my interview but for life events in general.

I feel much more confident now and my interview day can’t come quickly enough!

I think I have turned the corner that separates anxiety and excitement and I can only feel the latter now.

I am so grateful for her time, Ellie is a true inspirational midwife and coach.”
