In The Secret Community, we aim for an ethos of 'always be kinder than necessary, everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about'. This is essential in the ethos we're trying to achieve.
Every comment or post in the Secret Community should be overtly kind, even if you're in debate with someone you disagree with.
The NMC code says nurses and midwives must:
'Deal with differences of professional opinion with colleagues by discussion and informed debate, respecting their views and opinions and behaving in a professional way at all times.'
And this applies online too and in fact especially, as your words are so easily copied and shared.
Remember it's hard to learn or change opinions when talking to people who you don't feel respect you, so personal comments are not something we encourage.
