The formal stuff is below but the best way to explain who I am, why I trained as a midwife, left for a while, and then came back, is here. As you can tell, I’m becoming more focused on trauma and recovery for midwives and students.

I am an NHS midwife who works in all settings of a busy maternity hospital but I particularly enjoy slow, calm Birth Centre care. I am also a Freedom to Speak Up Listener.

Outside of clinical work, I write extensively on midwifery. My latest book, ‘Becoming a Midwife: A Student's Guide’ comes out on 23rd February 2023. This was commissioned by Macmillan Education, Bloomsbury.

I provide one-to-one and group sessions for aspiring and student midwives on the midwifery application process; and peer support sessions for student and qualified midwives.

To support myself and my clients, I have regular clinical supervision from a UKCP-registered psychotherapist, as well as good links with the psychotherapy community, many of who are NHS or teaching staff in the area.

My work includes:

  • A well-reviewed self-published book on getting into midwifery

  • A midwifery novel which was picked up by a small publisher

  • One to one and group sessions which you can find more about in the ‘Work With Ellie’ tab

  • OUT IN FEB 2023

  • This book is a person-centred guide to gaining the academic and practical skills needed to qualify and work as a midwife

Provides comprehensive, user-friendly advice and guidance for student midwives throughout their theoretical and practical learning and should be an essential text for all universities...
— University of Leicester, UK, Professor Jayne Marshall, Professor of Midwifery
Gives good insight into the course, its structure, and the reality of studying and working full time. It supports the transition from being a student to being a midwife with great support and sensitivity.
— Sheffield Hallam University, UK, Sally Lee, Senior Midwifery Lecturer
The book I wish I’d had as a student and newly qualified midwife.
— Hana Young, practising midwife
